May Senior of the Month May Senior of the Month: May Senior Student of the Month Carly Powell has been chosen as Fabius-Pompey’s Senior Student of the Month for the month of May. Carly is an accomplished athlete, student, and member of the Fabius-Pompey community. She plays soccer, volleyball, and softball and serves as President of High School Band, Vice President of National Honor Society, and Vice President of Student Council. What has been your favorite extracurricular activity in high school? Being on a team, in general; it doesn’t really matter which sport. April Senior of the Month April Senior of the Month: April Senior Student of the Month   Sophia Widdekind has been chosen as Fabius-Pompey’s Senior Student of the Month for the month of April. Sophia is a wonderful student, artist, and member of our school community. She has been a leader in our high drama and musical programs throughout her high school career. Most recently, she starred in Fools and Thoroughly Modern Millie . What has been your favorite extracurricular activity in high school? Definitely participating in drama and musical productions. HS Symphonic Band traveled to Nashville HS Symphonic Band traveled to Nashville: The High School Symphonic Band traveled to Nashville Tennessee from Thursday, March 30th to Sunday, April 2nd.  Fifty students and six chaperones attended a national band competition at Brentwood High School.  Our high school group competed against ten other bands and placed third in our class.  We are so proud of their accomplishments!  The group toured historic RCA Studio B where Elvis Presley, Dolly Parton and Carrie Underwood have recorded.  Students then made a recording of their concert performance in that very same studio and all students received a copy of the CD.  Other highlights of the trip included a guided tour of the city of Nashville, time at the Country Music Hall of Fame, and watching a show at the Grand Ole Opry.  Our students represented ...
March Senior Student of the Month March Senior Student of the Month: March Senior Student of the Month Sofia Powell has been chosen as Fabius-Pompey’s Senior Student of the Month for the month of March. Sofia is a hardworking student who challenges herself in the classroom, has played softball and volleyball throughout her high school career, and volunteers as a tutor in the middle school. February Senior of the Month February Senior of the Month: February Senior Student of the Month Liam McCarthy has been chosen as Fabius-Pompey’s Senior Student of the Month for the month of February. Liam is an extremely active member of the school and local community. Liam is a member of Teen Institute, Technical Theatre Club, Varsity Track & Field, Band, and is President of both the Senior Class and YMCA Leader’s Club. March is Music in our Schools Month March is Music in our Schools Month: March is Music in Our Schools Month, and we have a busy list of activities here in the music department we'd like to invite you to attend.    March 22nd is the MS/HS Spring Band Concert at 7 PM in the HS Auditorium. The concert will be under an hour and has some wonderful music to hear.    March 29th is the MS/HS Spring Chorus Concert at 7 PM in the HS Auditorium. Please come listen to the wonderful selections they have to perform. Susan has chosen some great music for the kids.    Lastly, March 30th-April 2nd the High School Band will be going to Nashville to perform in the Heritage Festivals Music Competition. Chess Club Returns Chess Club Returns: Chess Returns to Fabius-Pompey Chess has been exploding in the Middle School-High School Library and we have chess games going on nearly every period of the school day!  Fabius-Pompey is well known for excellent players and in the past they have earned trophies at the national level! Fabius Pompey has a long tradition of chess and we are excited to inspire a new generation of chess players. Chess teaches “systems thinking”. Systems thinking is simply the art of seeing "the big picture.” It's a problem-solving approach that views the pieces as being connected to a greater whole. Green Screen in the MS/HS library Green Screen in the MS/HS library: Green Screen in the MS/HS Library We have a new Green Screen in the Middle School-High School Library.  One of the backrooms has been painted a vibrant green.  The students have had tons of fun taking holiday selfies and adding their own unique backgrounds before holiday break.  You can see quite a few of them on the MS/HS Library website ( www.fplib.com ) on the instagram feed.    In addition, Mrs. Miles and Miss Turner recently collaborated on a Parody Commercial Project for her 7th grade General Music Class.  Students created a song parody for alternative products such as Sweet Smelling Undergarments and Dunk Shoes.  Student groups rapped and sang their way into using the Green Screen.  They practiced and came in during the day to film their ...
January Senior of the Month January Senior of the Month: January Senior Student of the Month   Victoria Sims has been chosen as Fabius-Pompey’s Senior Student of the Month for the month of January. Victoria is an active member of the community and a consistent and hard-working student. Victoria is a member of the Varsity Volleyball and Track & Field teams, Math League, Science Olympiad, and National Honor Society. She also serves as a mentor for Battle of the Books, a coach for Recreational Track, has done missionary work in West Africa, and spends much of her summers volunteering with refugees through Hopeprint in Syracuse. Adrian Vilardi - West Point Candidate Adrian Vilardi - West Point Candidate: On Wednesday, January 18, 2017, Congressman John Katko visited Fabius-Pompey High School to inform F-P Senior Adrian Vilardi of his offer of appointment from the United States Military at West Point. Also attending the meeting was Assemblyman David Knapp, School Administrators and many of Adrian’s immediate and extended family members. Adrian was one of a group of select students to be nominated to the U.S. Military Academy by Congressman Katko after a competitive review and interview process conducted by an independent Service Advisory Committee. The committee interviews all of the candidates for nomination to the U.S. Service Academies in New York’s 24 th Congressional District and makes recommendations to the Congressman for nominations. Eleventh Annual Career Fair for 11th graders Eleventh Annual Career Fair for 11th graders: The Eleventh Annual Career Fair for our eleventh graders was held Friday, December 16.  The thirty-some volunteers did an incredible job of explaining their career choices, educational requirements and job prospects for their chosen careers. The students heard about careers in the military, the restaurant business, small businesses, the legal profession, professional sports, graphic design, the arts, music, education, engineering, health care, law enforcement, construction trades, and other fields.  Thanks again to the volunteers for sharing your time, energy and expertise with our students!             
November Senior of the Month November Senior of the Month: November Senior Student of the Month   Benjamin Stroh has been chosen as Fabius-Pompey’s Senior Student of the Month for the month of November. Ben has made many impressive contributions to our school community over the years and even started his own business last year. Ben has been actively involved in Tech Club since 6 th grade and has been President throughout his high school career. He has also run for our Varsity Cross Country team and been a member of Fayetteville-Manlius’ swim team since his freshman year. He was chosen as a captain of the FM team this season and has made it to State Qualifiers each year for his butterfly and distance free events. October Senior of the Month October Senior of the Month: October Senior Student of the Month   Rammi Hanai has been chosen as Fabius-Pompey’s Senior Student of the Month for the month of October. Rammi is a wonderful student and an active member of the arts community here at Fabius-Pompey. He has been an enthusiastic member of our band and technical theatre club throughout his high school career. This year, he also made his debut on stage as the lead in the fall production of “Fools” by Neil Simon. Despite it being his first time on stage, Rammi won a TANYS Meritorious Achievement Award in Acting for his portrayal of Leon Tolchinsky. Board Game Club Board Game Club: Board Game Club Comes to Fabius Pompey MS/HS Library The students at the MS/HS are going crazy for Chess. One chessboard has morphed into 5 boards available each period of the day to students. They are playing on their devices and on game boards whenever they can. Seeing an explosion of interest in chess, Heather Turner, the new School Librarian at the MS/HS has started a board game club. We wanted to be inclusive to all students interested in learning new board games. Chess is one of these games but there are so many others. Robotics and Maker Club Robotics and Maker Club: Robotics & Maker Club Vex Robotics has arrived in Fabius Pompey. As a result students are getting excited about building, creating, and coding. Coding is an important new literacy that will continue to become more important for all students to learn. To facilitate this interest and spirit of invention, Heather Turner, the new MS/HS librarian started a Robotics and Maker Club.  The shift to "making" represents the perfect storm of new technological materials, expanded opportunities, learning through firsthand experience, and the basic human impulse to create. Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged:  September 28 th two of our elementary school athletes and twelve eighth grade volunteers traveled to the Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged which were held at the CNY Family Sports Centre in Syracuse.  Our athletes participated in the adaptive games while our eighth grade volunteers manned the various stations of adapted sports.  Student athletes from many school districts in the county participated.  Thanks to the Fabius-Pompey APTS and the Fabius-Pompey elementary school faculty and staff for providing all the juice boxes and paper products and a large percent of the snacks for the three hundred athletes, aides and volunteers.  The day is an exceptional day of fun for all.            
Alex Curr places 5th in Discus at the NYSPHSAA Track and Field Championships Alex Curr places 5th in Discus at the NYSPHSAA Track and Field Championships: Alex Curr Places 5 th  in Discus at NYS Track and Field Championships Continuing his remarkable run of success, F-P senior Alex Curr placed 5 th  overall in the discus throw for Division 2 in the New York State Track and Field Championships on June 10 th  at CNS High School.  Alex threw 144’10”, nearly matching his personal best.  Alex’s 5 th  place finish in all of New York State Division 2 schools adds to his already impressive resume from this season.  Alex took 5 th  in the discus at the CBA Invitational on May 6 th , and took 1 st  in discus at the Weedsport Invitational on May 14 th .  He was also the OHSL Patriot League Champion in the discus.  In addition, at the State Qualifiers on June 3 rd , Alex broke ...
Section 3 Scholar Athlete Dinner Section 3 Scholar Athlete Dinner: On Monday, June 13, 2016, Section 3 honored scholar athletes.  Fabius-Pompey had two student-athletes that were recognized, Joshua Andrews and Sarah Marsden.   Sarah's class rank was one out of sixty-five.  Sarah's sports career included: 4 years Varsity Soccer and 4 years Varsity Track and Field. Josh was third in the class. Josh's sports career included: 3 years Varsity Soccer and 4 years Varsity Track and Field. Sarah Marsden was one of four recipients of the Coach D awards, out of 172 top student-athletes.
