Volunteer Program Information
Mrs. Barbara McKenney, Volunteer Coordinator
August 2010
Welcome to a new, exciting school year at Fabius-Pompey! I hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable summer. If you are interested in volunteering this year, as a one-time commitment or on an ongoing basis, we can always use your help. If you have never filled out a volunteer form for my files, they are on our school website, in the Elementary School Office, the Middle School-High School Office, or can be sent home with your child upon request. For liability and safety reasons, it is imperative that I have a form from all volunteers on file before you can volunteer. If you have filled one out in a previous year, you should receive a letter from me soon, verifying that I submitted your name to the School Board for approval for the 2010-2011 school year.
To start out the school year, we will need nine or ten volunteers to help with our Grandparents’ Day Breakfasts. This year we will be serving breakfast on two days, Wednesday, September 15th, and Thursday, September 16th. You’ll need to be at school by 7:45 a.m. and should be finished by 8:30 a.m. We need help with the serving line on both days.
This year we will hold our fourth annual Tenth Grade Fall Clean-Up Day on Thursday, October 14 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (with the rain date of Thursday, October 21). It will run like our Ninth Grade Volunteer Day, so I will need twenty-some volunteers to chaperone small groups of tenth graders as we clean up the fall foliage.
We always need volunteers to help in the classrooms, the libraries, and the Reading and Math Centers. Chaperones are needed throughout the school year for field trips, band trips, chorus trips, and nature walks around the village. We will once again be looking for volunteers to help with the Enrichment Clusters from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays at the Elementary School. If you have a suggestion for a new Cluster, please contact me.
The eighth graders will be participating in their Community Service Project again this year. We are always looking for volunteer opportunities for them, so if you need extra hands with a community service project, please remember to call my office with sufficient notice that I can find eighth graders who will be willing to help you with your project.
We have scheduled our Eleventh Grade Career Fair for Thursday, November 18, and our Middle School Career Fair for Friday, December 3. We will need twenty-some volunteers on each day to come in half a day (from 8 to 11 a.m.) and speak to our eleventh graders on the first date, or our seventh and eighth graders on the second date about their career fields. If you are interested in this exciting program designed to expose our students to some options in the working world today, please contact me.
Check our school website under the Volunteer section for upcoming volunteer opportunities. Some tentative dates for the 2010-2011 school year are: the Fifth Grade Wellness Workshop on Friday, April 1, the Ninth Grade Volunteer Day on Thursday, May 5 (rain date scheduled for Thursday, May 12), the Budget Vote on Tuesday, May 17, and the Elementary School Fun Day on Friday, June 17. Other activities to watch for are the fall picnic at the Middle School-High School, Fifth Grade Ski Trip to Toggenburg, Dr. Seuss’s Birthday Celebration, and our school picnics in June. I will try to post the dates for these and other volunteering activities on the website as soon as I get them.
