The Counseling Office meets with students regularly throughout the year in regard to student issues, academic and personal counseling, scheduling of classes, and overall student progress.

BOCES Visit for 10th & 11th Graders
Presentations from BOCES will be given on Wednesday, January 15th, regarding available programs offered through BOCES.  All interested 10th or 11th grade students will have a chance to visit the McEvoy BOCES Center in Cortland on February 12, 2020.  Details and permission slips will be handed out in classes.

BOCES Program Open Houses
Media Marketing Communications Open House for sophomores and their parents - at WCNY-TV/FM, March 10, 2020 - 5 to 6 pm.
New Vision's Criminal Justice Open House for juniors and their parents - at Onondaga County Sheriff's Office, March 3, 2020 - 5 to 6 pm.
New Vision's Engineering Open House for juniors and their parents - at Lockheed Martin Building 6, March 3, 2020 - 6 to 7:30 pm.

Also, there will be a CTE Open House at the Cortlandville Campus on Wednesday, March 18, from 5:30 - 7:00 pm.  This overview will share the key components of a Career and Technical Education program including current offerings, high school and college credits, extracurricular activities, and more.  Programs offered at the campus include:  Automotive Collision, Automotive Technology, Computer Technology, Construction Technology, Cosmetology, Culinary and Pastry Arts, Early Childhood Education, Graphic Communications, Health Occupations, Physical Therapy Professions, and Welding Technology.

College Night 2020
All high school parents are invited to the annual College Night 2020, to be held on Wednesday, March 4, from 6:00 - 7:00 pm in the high school library.  Details will be mailed home in mid-February.  Topics to be covered will include courses to take for college preparation, SAT, and ACT tests, the college process, and more.

SAT Preparation Course
OCC is offering two courses:  one at OCC Main Campus Sundays from 3/8 - 4/26 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm and the other at OCC Liverpool Campus Tuesdays from 3/17 - 4/28 from 6:00 - 9:00 pm.  Questions contact them at: or call (315) 498-6080.  Details are in the counseling office.

CNY STEM Scholarship Program
Five local companies are now offering a total of 9 scholarships valued at $108,000.  This scholarship program is open to graduating high school seniors who will be majoring in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer or Software Engineering, Nursing (including PA or NP programs), or Architecture, starting in the fall, 2020.  Please see the counseling office for more details. 
Gerald J. Buckenmeyer FASNY Volunteer Scholarships
These $1,500 scholarships allow young firefighters to continue their post-secondary education.  Apply online at  Applications are due March 15, 2020.

Syracuse Builders Exchange Scholarship
The Syracuse Builders Exchange is offering a scholarship to employees of an SBE member firm or a child of an employee of an SBE member firm.  Deadline for applications is April 24, 2020.

District Attorneys' Advisory Council of Onondaga County
Offering four educational scholarships in the amount of $500.00 each to four graduating high school seniors that are residents of Onondaga County, interested in pursuing a career in a criminal justice related field.  Applications must be postmarked by March 6, 2020.  Please see the counseling office for details.

Central New York Chapter Air & Waste Management Association
Graduating high school seniors and current college students may be eligible for scholarship grants of up to $1,500.  Deadline is February 28, 2020.  Please see the counseling office for details.
Association of Fire Districts of the State of New York
Ned Carter Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is offered to seniors who will be attending a two or four year college upon graduation and must be related to a firefighter, be a firefighter or an Explorer/Junior Member in a fire department or fire district that is currently a paid up member of the Association of Fire Districts of the State of New York.  Please see the counseling office for more details and a scholarship application.  Application must be postmarked no later than Saturday, February 22, 2020.

Syracuse Track Club Scholarship
The Syracuse Track Club has available two $1,000 scholarships to be awarded to a deserving male and female high school senior who participate on their school's cross-country and/or track and field teams.  Deadline is May 1, 2020.  Please see details in the counseling office.
10th Grade Girls - Cornell Engineering
The Cornell University Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Graduate Women's Group is pleased to announce the WOMEN (Women's Outreach in Materials, Energy, and Nanobiotechnology) Event to be held on Saturday, March 14th, 2020, from 9:00 - 4:00 pm.  This free outreach event is intended to introduce high school girls to chemical engineering and related science and engineering fields.  Please check with the counseling office for more information.

Summer Pre-College Programs at Carnegie Mellon
For over 100 years, Carnegie Mellon has offered students unique and hands-on educational programs from the fine arts to technology and everything in between.  Through the Carnegie Mellon Pre-College Program, rising juniors and seniors in high school have the opportunity to experience this.  Please see your counselor for more information on the various programs being offered this summer.

Remind App

Contact the Counseling Office for instructions on how to sign up for “Remind”.  Remind is a new app the Counseling Office will be using to remind parents/students of events, deadlines, etc.  Information was mailed home to Seniors and Juniors, and will be forthcoming for other grades.
