Alice in Wonderland

It Takes a Village to Present Alice in Wonderland…

The High School Drama Club performed Alice in Wonderland from November 7-9th in the High School Auditorium.  Students dedicated themselves to transforming the auditorium into the land of Wonderland. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is an 1865 novel written by English author Charles Lutwidge Dodgson under the pseudonym Lewis Carroll. It tells of a young girl named Alice falling through a rabbit hole into a fantasy world populated by peculiar, anthropomorphic creatures. High school students brought to life makeup words and madness.  

The talent was amazing this year and casting was extremely difficult!  A highlight was the improv done by seniors Madalyn Donaghy-Robinson as the March Hare and Jon Mokry as the Mad Hatter.  Vincent Gasparini and Parker Goodrum garnered laughs as the silly Tweedles in their debut performances in the High School Drama.  Megan Gagnier memorized over 200 lines as the curious small and medium Alice and had a fantastic counterpoint with Kalysta Donaghy-Robinson as the Cheshire Cat.  Caleb Neuner returned to the drama this year as the bumbling King and hilarious Lizard, Bill. The entire cast did an amazing job and we cannot wait for next year’s play. 

Fabius-Pompey 6th and 7th grade students participated in an inquiry-based project in support of our production of Alice in Wonderland.  The entire class was tasked with solving the real world problem of how to quickly make our cast members into lobsters, fish and oysters or how to create a garden in our auditorium for this play.   Using the design process for this project-based learning exercise, small groups researched and designed what they thought to be a solution to the problem. They then worked on public speaking and presentation skills to share their potential solution with the class. The class voted on the idea that they would like to move forward. Students collaborated to share their ideas, and create the final design.  Many thanks to those students for their creativity and enthusiasm for this project.
