Robotics and Maker Club
Robotics & Maker Club
Vex Robotics has arrived in Fabius Pompey. As a result students are getting excited about building, creating, and coding. Coding is an important new literacy that will continue to become more important for all students to learn. To facilitate this interest and spirit of invention, Heather Turner, the new MS/HS librarian started a Robotics and Maker Club. The shift to "making" represents the perfect storm of new technological materials, expanded opportunities, learning through firsthand experience, and the basic human impulse to create. The Maker Movement has been tied to robotics because of its spirit of invention and creation. It gives student authentic experiences to grow and learn in student centered experiences.
Students worked with Ozobots, Little Bits, Vex EDR, and the MeeperBot. They created new paths for the Ozobots and worked on creating their own buzzer with Little Bits. We are looking forward to reviewing even more robots through the OCMBOCES School Library Systems Robotics Kits. This club meets during Activity Period on Wednesdays and is open to all students (6-12).
